NVMe and SATA drives compared
NVMe drives connect over PCI Express and use a protocol designed for flash storage that handles many requests in parallel; SATA drives use an interface designed for hard disks. For databases, package installs, builds and busy desktops, that means faster disk access and less waiting.
Disk speed is one part of performance: CPU, RAM and the network still decide how a workload feels.
Windows or Linux on NVMe
Linux plans come with full root access and a choice of distributions. Windows plans run Windows Server 2019, 2022 or 2025 with full Administrator access; Microsoft licensing is not included. Starter plans run Linux only.
